A used engine computer can be sold on its own or with its matching security components. Choosing between them starts with your repair plan and the exact parts included—not the vehicle model name alone.
1. A single ECU or DME
A standalone listing supplies the engine-control unit described in that listing. A key, immobilizer module or other control unit is included only when the product description says so.
For examples, see the VW 03H907309A / Bosch 0261S06556 ECU and Audi 8J0907115AK / Bosch 0261S05133 ECU. These are different applications; the links illustrate standalone products, not interchangeability.
For a used standalone ECU, your technician may need to address the receiving vehicle's software, coding or immobilizer data. The linked listings do not include programming, coding or installation.
2. A confirmed matched starting kit
A matched kit supplies security components that already belong together. Its value is the existing match between those supplied components. The exact contents vary, so read the Included section and compare the photographs.
Our BMW 7594354 / MSD85.1 DME, CAS3 and key set includes its original programmed key and the pictured ignition controls. This confirmed set is ready to install and start a compatible vehicle; separate immobilizer matching or key programming is not required for the supplied matched components.
The receiving vehicle must still have the matching engine, transmission and DME/CAS configuration. A matched set is not a universal conversion kit. Check the product's exact component numbers and stated limitations, including any unconfirmed remote-key frequency. Programming, coding and installation services are not included.
3. Specialist assessment of data transfer
If your repair plan involves keeping the vehicle's original module data, a qualified independent specialist can assess whether it can be transferred to a compatible replacement. The condition of the original module and the specific control system matter. A data-transfer route cannot be assumed to work when the original data cannot be recovered.
ECUOEM supplies the parts described in each listing. The linked products do not include a cloning, data-transfer, programming or installation service. Arrange any such work directly with your chosen specialist.
Compare these details before selecting a part
- The complete OEM and manufacturer numbers, including every letter suffix.
- The hardware/software specification and the vehicle's engine, transmission and market configuration.
- The components and key actually supplied, plus the listing's confirmed matching status.
- The services and accessories excluded from the sale.
Why the exact system matters
Ross-Tech's Immobilizer III ECU replacement guidance distinguishes a used ECU from a new one and specifies system-dependent prerequisites. That guidance concerns VAG Immobilizer III; it is not a programming procedure for every ECU family shown in our store.
Porsche's KESSY bulletin of 25 June 2024, covering Cayenne 9PA from 2003–2010, describes the relationship between DME, KESSY, steering lock and keys. It also advises retaining original components until system operation is restored. It does not establish compatibility for a particular replacement kit.
Find the right type of product
Browse standalone engine-control units or ECU, immobilizer and key sets. If you would like help comparing a specific item, contact us with its part number or label photos; you may also provide a VIN for a vehicle-specific check. Asking us to check is optional and adds no required step to checkout.
The product description defines the exact sale contents and limitations. Read the current Return & Refund Policy before ordering.
